MIDNIGHT POETRY – ‘The Knight’

morning alleyway
silent feet shuffle
river of grey suits

lights faintly glow
distant smell of coffee
bakery opens the door

city full of ghosts
screen in hand
heading to a desk

morning routine
run on autopilot
eyes half shut

fresh coffee sip
time to regain
consciousness

awareness still
in deep sleep
shrouded in a veil

vision of a bleak future
not enough to sustain
whims of the offsprings

on a hamster wheel
going nowhere far
waiting aimlessly

for the one day
the shiny knight arrives
to slay the dragon…

to win this game
to break out
of the cage

wake up
from the daily
societal dream

crack the code
realize-be
awareness…
the knight

MIDNIGHT POETRY – ‘Santa’s Dream’

Mrs Santa cooks a storm
for this special day
yet her man the Santa
spends the night away

riding away reindeers
dodging violent storms
climbing out of chimneys
tricks of the trade performs

giving the gift of christmas
to kids young at heart
red dress white facial hair
in the costume looking smart

after the feast in solitude
his missus nods off in her chair
the evening news keep blaring on
christmas carols in the air

she dreams of days gone by
before his current role
the money were a bit tight
when Nick was on the dole

came the christmas poems
then the famous Cola ad
brought in many precious gifts
young Nick has never had

his attitude and caring nature
wishing well and sharing cheer
brought him fame out of the parish
giving back since year after year

the story of a well-to-do person
not too young and not too old
kingdom built out of not much
word of mouth and heart of gold

MIDNIGHT POETRY – ‘In Disguise’

lonely passerby
insolent demeanor
face hidden in a hoodie

focused eyes
scanning the surroundings
hands deep in pockets

mischief at the fingertips
on a lookout for treasures
in for a change of ownership

cool wind lifts the leaves
storm is brewing above
dark clouds on approach

the hoodie falls back
revealing mop of hair
over stern face

hurt and unheard
disillusioned with life
the face of a child

in disguise

MIDDAY POETRY – ‘Defined Time’

static noise
on the line
tells me
all is fine

jittery
on edge
coffee
smells divine

beads of color
precious gift
love shared
on a line

life purpose
full of
guided steps
taken by design

for some
its kids
for some its
glass of wine

there is no
right or wrong
a way that is
defined

oneness in
solitude
the life story
of mine
