MIDNIGHT POETRY – ‘In Baby’s Eyes’

only mother knows
how child’s hair grows
only fathers can speak
of faterhoods technique

child is born too young
then learns a new tongue
gifted with odd moving parts
smile that melts all hearts

soon they start to crawl
licking painted wall
learning as they go
for viewers quite a show

growing up one day at a time
now on furniture they climb
the progress watched closely
still supervised mostly

skip and jump the teenage years
cuteness with time disappears
adulthood starts to slowly creep
starting their own family – a faith leap

newborn babies rewrite time
their presence feels sublime
lending adults wings of youth
uncovering the deeper truth

their eyes reflect our innocence
in sight of souls’ magnificence
prior to our fear of living
our own greatness reliving

being one with all of life
put aside the daily strife
yet most of all we enjoy
their capacity to hold joy

MIDNIGHT POETRY “No Child No Regret”

Now this is one piece that just came up for me as I reflected upon the choice in my life to stay Child-free. The below words may not resonate with everyone, I get that. Let’s just say it’s my personal lens on this still rather hot and controversial subject.

“No Child No Regret”

Parental expectations
At the heart of society
Push into relationships
Without true connection
Vested interest procreation

Fear of years passing by
The chase to fit in the mold
All girlfriends who pushed prams
Turned into tired mums

No chance of sleep and forget “me” time
Relationship suffers a blow
All we have is our choice
There is no good time for remorse
