MIDDAY POETRY – ‘Late morning’

the cabriolet was waiting
it was a late morning
after the wedding
time to sober up

the plan was to head north
to the checkpoints
then through them
into the land of opportunities

in the warm shower
she made the decision
it was time to put her life
into her own hands

her dreams awaited
on the other side
of the border
she jumped into the car

and only then

a sudden jolt
she woke up
sweating
still single
